Addressing the preservation briefs produced by the National Parks Service as a collaborative class project.

The National Park Service has produced a set of short papers, called monographs addressing 50 topics in preservation, restoration, and appropriate treatments and substitutions for buildings, materials, grounds, and ADA accessibility. These briefs serve as a field guide for historic preservation in architectural practice.

As part of a group project, my role was to design the board template with one other student, Craig Salzman, distribute it to the class, and additionally create my own board on my brief, The Preservation of Historic Glazed Architectural Terra-Cotta.

Project Statement:

To select and research a preservation brief from the provided sixteen briefs that the studio professor has deemed the most interesting. To then work collaboratively as a class to develop a singular style and prepare clearly organized boards that convey written, pictorial, and graphical information from the brief and other additional sources. Students must orally present their findings in a professional manner, and so that anyone can easily understand the topic and content.
