Hazy Light
December 2017- in class
16.5 x 13.5 inches
Acrylic and Sharpie on Paper
While studying various artists, I became inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I combined elements of his style with the structure of a beautiful church I photographed while visiting San Antonio, Texas. Just as the technical style drawing of the structure and the flowing impressionist style of the scenery contrast and merge together to create this work, so does the color palette, as yellow and blue accents combine to the green of the trees on the right edge.

Skin Deep
March 5th, 2017- in class
14 x 10.8 inches
Acrylic and Oil on Canvas
In this piece, I wanted to explore the concepts of beauty, body image, perception, and the female figure. The use of contour lines serve to give movement to the work, and my color palette was inspired by a mixture of simplicity and the focused emhapsis of primary colors. While somewhat experimental, this piece was one of my favorites to complete.

Monsoon
August 2017- on own
14 x 9.5 inches
Pen and Watercolor on Paper
A common theme among many of my works is the ability of water, and movement through shapes and waves. This piece exemplifies such theme, and focuses on the textural patterns within directional movement. Contrasting stark blue against a midst of black and white, the wave is the key focus of the eye. Exaggerated to be larger than life, small amounts of surrealistic influence can be found within the details beneath the surface.

Reach Modified
November 2019 - on own
Digital Media
This piece was created as an adaptation of my work, "Reach". I was inspired to modify this peice through the implementation and experimentation of new photoshop software. This work not only created a new art piece with deeper meaning, but also got me acquainted with new computer technology.

Lost at Sea
March 2017- in class
16 x 20 inches
Colored pencil, Fluid acrylic, and Paper on Canvas board
This piece has perhaps been my favorite to create, as it has been my first experiment with fluid acrylic paint. I actually had to mix together and create the paint, using old acrylic and water in different ratios to find the right thickness. I chose this medium because it truly represents the fluidity and movement of both water, and the flow of life itself.

Reach
October 2016 - on own
11 x 8.5 inches
Pen on Paper
This piece was created during the early stages of my discovery for my interest in contour lines and movement in art. The human form has always intrigued me, which is why I chose to experiment the newfound technique with hands. I find that art void of meaning, unique stylistic characteristics, or surrealistic attributes is simply too plain. And as we all reach towards something in life, it is up to each individual to decide what that subject of question is to them.

Sun Kissed
July 2017- on own
14 x 10.5 inches
Pen, Sharpie, and Watercolor on Paper
In concept, this piece is very open to interpretation. The idea is to let viewers determine their own personal meaning within the work. The common themes that tie the work together are the use of natural elements portrayed in a surrealistic manner, as well as the use of primary colors, blue and yellow. This is one of the first pieces where I have experimented with creating a flow through the use of single shapes and lines serving as parts of multiple subjects.

Tree of Life
April 2017- in class
18 x 12 inches
Pen, Photo, and Watercolor on Paper
As a mixed media piece, this work first began with the editing of an image taken of a tree in a public market in Texas using the basic features on a Galaxy S7 phone. After this, the picture was printed and ripped to be pasted as the foundation of the collage. The rest is quite abstract in manner, as each element was thought of just before being painted and drawn onto the work. Demonstrated in this piece, the tree of life serves as a symbol for all walks of life, and all types of subjects.

Apollo
December 2017- in class
13 x 10.5 inches
Pen, Sharpie, and Watercolor on Paper
It is only fair, to emphasize the use of positive and negative white space throughout my piece inspired by space. The contrast between black and white, with pops of color on key subjects serves to draw the eye to focus points, such as the astronaut's helmet, and the American flag. Through this piece I wanted to show that from the deepest oceans, to black matter light years away, and within our social cultural identities, the human world is full of wonder and interconnectedness.

State of Mind
November 2016 – in class
19 x 15 inches
Acrylic, Print, and Watercolor pencil on Paper
The inspiration for this work is the idea that even in a chaotic world of black and white, the human mind can always find creativity. This was achieved through using a linoleum block to create a custom print pattern for the background, acrylic paint for the human figure, and by trailing a rainbow succession of colors with watercolor pencils to mimic the texture of a brain. It is notable that the figure has no mouth, as the ideas of the mind speak louder than any words ever could.

Mother Mountain
November 2017- in class
12 x 9 inches
Acrylic, Oil, and Pen on Canvas
The inspiration for this work stemmed from the idea of human coexistence with nature. The female figure depicted is not only surrounded by the mountains, but interconnected with her environment. The emphasis on her hair symbolizes that her mind is bright with the ideas of harmony on Earth, while her flesh and bones are in unity through color with everything surrounded by her, as the physical forms of life are ultimately quite similar.

Monde en Lumiere
July 2nd, 2017- on own
5.5 x 5 inches
Sharpie on Photo
Similar to La Fleur, this piece was made through taking a photo, editing it with my phone, and then drawing over it. Surrealistic in manner, I used congruent shapes to tie together unrelated elements, transforming an ordinary lamp at Village Gate in Rochester into a world of light.

La Fleur
June 26th, 2017- on own
5 x 7 inches
Sharpie on Photo
This picture was taken on a Galaxy S7 by discovering the way the afternoon light played with the blinds and shadows in my bathroom at home. After printing the image, meaning was given to the work with the sharpie flower, showing that even in unconventionally beautiful places, wonder can grow.

Self Perception
December 2016 – in class
10 x 8 inches
Oil on Photo transfer to Canvas board
In this self portrait piece, I took a photograph of myself and edited it using a photo merging app on my phone, and then adhered it onto canvas board with photo transfer paper and mod podge, to give the textured effect showing that nobody is flawless. After this, oil paints were brushed over it to create the butterfly and colored eyes, along with using a palette knife on the shirt. Overall, this piece conveys that while reality may not always be so pure, you can always find beauty.

Tidal Instincts
January 2017- in class
9 x 8.25 x 5.5 inches
Wire on Book
Everyday, the tide is pulled by the moon, we know this as a fact now. However, for many years before the development of science, many were mystified over how the water moved each rising and setting of the sun, some believing that it was due to a spiritual force. I chose to depict this idea in my sculpture, by having a human-like hand yet in divine unrealistic proportions pulling the waves like a puppet master, with a tiny string.

Roots
October 2017- in class
19 inches (height)
Acrylic and Wire on Glass
This sculpture started with the forming of a wire bonsai tree to reflect the branches emblem on the glass bottle. Following this, the tree was secured using wire “roots” that dive to the very depths of the bottle. To finish the work I painted on a scenery inspired by the surroundings of a bonsai tree in nature, using silver acrylic to reflect the color of the wire used in the first stages of its development.

World of Literature
February 2017- in class
8.25 x 5.75 x 2 inches
Acrylic, Clear wire, Oil, and Paper
I created this piece using an X-acto knife to carve out the pages to a cave-like landscape in an old book I found. To add embellishments, I then made two small origami birds and attached them to the inside space using clear wire, as well as painting the page edges with rose and gold metallic acrylic paint, and added an oil paint flower and leaves to the front. Through this work, one can see that literature is truly a world of its own.
